Bollywood may have a new found love in cricket, thanks to IPL, but the two have had a common connection– Bollywood beauties and cricket heroes. While some ended up in marriage, others had their own slow death.
Long before Deepika Padukone, Sayali Bhagat, Geeta Basra, Isha Sharvani, Kim Sharma and the like made a bee line for the super smart cricketers, we already had Sharmila Tagore married to Mansoor Ali Khan– The Nawab of Pataudi. Her career was at an all time high when she decided to be with Tiger Pataudi and share rest of his life as his wife. Their kids Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan have both chosen films as a vocation.
Reena Roy and Mohsin Khan’s marriage did not have a happy ending. After his almost negligible stint with Bollywood, the flamboyant cricketer Mohsin Khan’s marriage with Reena Roy ended in a bitter divorce. Reena now lives in Mumbai with her daughter.
Most of the actresses have had affairs from the subcontinent. Neena Gupta however holds the distinction of having been in a relationship with a man from the Carribean– Sir Vivian Richards. Although they did not get married, the two have a daughter Masaba who lives with her mother. On July 15, 2008 in a secret wedding ceremony, Neena got married to Vivek Mehra, a partner at Pricewatercoopers.
Ravi Shastri and Amrita Singh were quite a number in late eighties when Ravi was darling of the masses and Amrita was just setting her foot in the film industry. Although a few sparks did fly– television images of Amrita were captured as she cheered for Ravi every time he lifted a ball out of the park. The two even confessed feelings for one another on television but things did not turn out way they had wanted. While Ravi married Ritu Singh, Amrita ended up marrying Saif Ali Khan– Junior Pataudi. Their marriage too ended up in a divorce.
Kapil paaji was bowled over by sexy siren Sarika. Even though Kapil’s parents had approved of her, things could not get further as Romi, kapils’ ex girlfriend (now wife) came back, leaving Sarika alone to mend her broken heart. She later married Kamal Hassan and then divorced later on.
He was a successful– an Indian cricket captain and married. She was Miss India 1980, with some films in her kitty until the media circle started speaking about the two. In 1994, headlines called her a marriage breaker, but that did not bother much as In 1996, Azhar divorced his first wife Naureen to be with his love. The two tied the knot and now live in Hyderabad.
Former skipper Sourav Ganguly and actress Nagma’s relationship got a lot of media attention. She even went on publicly to announce about their affair. Saourav was already married to Dona. But when his career started getting affected, he severed all ties and the story died its own death.
Yuvraj is a completely ladies man. Having dated Kim Sharma for nearly four years before Mommy Neelam Singh disapproved of Kim, he then called the relationship off.

Yuvraj was also linked up with Deepika Padukone who were seen together during Indi-Pakistan one- day series. Yuvraj was also spotted many times with a London based model Karishma Kotak, best known for her Kingfisher calendar act. In between he was also linked with Delhi girl Minnisha Lamba
Besides the above mentioned jodis, some of the other popular link-ups between Bollywood actresses and cricketers include that of former Pakistan captain Imran Khan and Zeenat Aman and legendary West-Indian all-rounder Gary Sobers and Rajesh Khanna’s ex flame and popular T.V. actress Anju Mahendroo. He had even proposed to her but her parents’ disapproval worked against them.
