Michelle Obama- Style, Sense and Perseverance

Posted on: June 16, 2010

The first Lady of United States of America, Michelle Obama has captivated the world with her style. She is the unexpected style icon in the White House in the recent history. Not only because she is chic, she has a real elegance to her way of style. She exudes a sense of great comfort, ease and has brought a whole new meaning to power dressing.
A statuesque woman is often becoming the target of friendly criticism. Each piece that she wears is dissected and where people are wanting her to dress up representing the best in American fashion, comparing her to Jacqueline Kennedy, Mrs Obama has chosen her own authentic style and is sticking to it.

Her wardrobe, ranges comfortably from the preppy accessibility of J Crew and Gap to expensive designers such as America’s young Thakoon and the well-established Narciso Rodriguez. She embraces bright color, jazzy patterns, difficult bows and crystalline sparkles. Her choice of designers are different, away from the big names of American fashion such as Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera, she champions the younger race– Jason Wu, Isabel Toledo, Michael Kors, Sophie Theallet, Tracy Reese, Azzedine Alaïa .
This tall toned, black woman has shown to the women world over that if you are one of the most influential female in the world, its ok to look comfortable and enjoy your clothes, indulge in pleasures of fashion and take risks with your wardrobe.

She is able to take very practical pieces from what most people would consider everyday places and mix it with high-end fashion. The fact that she has chosen to mix her fashion humanizes her.
Mrs Obama is usually seen in finely-tailored, figure grazing, lightweight sleeveless dresses to spotlight her strong shoulders and toned arms, further accented by a belt to show off her waist. She sometimes tosses on a cardigan sweater, which creates a softer, more approachable look than a blazer, but just as businesslike. The First Lady is usually spotted wearing low to mid-heeled pumps that create a beautiful leg line and are in balance with her height. This is a classic, striking silhouette that works best on her figure.
Priceton and Harvard educated first Black African-American First Lady (she is also the only first Lady to have a postgraduate degree), Obama is quite new to her strange new career. She has devoid the image– by simply being herself, a wife and a mother and also a clever, educated woman. She is the first First Lady anyone can remember who seems remotely like the rest of us. She is an icon to women across globe, where women of color can elate to her story- born into a blue-collar family; overcoming racism and once even making more money than her husband.

She has talked publicly about the pressures military families face. She has encouraged healthy eating by planting a White House garden. She’s opened the White House to ordinary people and children. Service to community and family seems to be her theme.

Much has been said about her, and now there is a book about her– Michelle Style by Mandi Norwood. But as they say behind every successful man, there is a woman– Michelle Obama truly epitomizes.
